Dedicated Developers vs Project Outsourcing: Which Model Fits Your Team?
Two very different engagement models get lumped together as 'outsourcing.' Here's how to tell which one your situation actually calls for.

Project outsourcing means handing over a scoped deliverable: you define what you need, an external team builds it, and you receive a finished result with limited ongoing involvement in day-to-day decisions.
Dedicated developers work differently: the engineer joins your team, your sprints, your code review process and your tools, and reports to your engineering lead the way any other team member would. You retain the day-to-day direction; you're adding capacity, not delegating a deliverable.
Project outsourcing tends to fit well-defined, self-contained work — a specific feature, a migration, a defined product build — where requirements are unlikely to shift significantly mid-project.
Dedicated developers fit better when priorities are still evolving, when the work needs deep context about your product over time, or when you need a skill gap filled inside your existing team rather than a separate deliverable handed back to you.
Most growing product teams end up using both models at different points — dedicated developers for ongoing product work, and project-based engagements for bounded, well-specified pieces of work.
